Taking Care Of The Home You Just Purchased

You've just closed escrow on your new house and you're very excited to move in and get settled. You don't want all of that excitement to allow you to overlook a few important steps you should take both in preparation for your move in and shortly after moving in. Here is a guide you can follow to make sure you don't overlook something you'll end up regretting later:

Have the house treated for pests

Homeowners should get set up with a pest control company who will come out routinely to treat the home for pests so they don't become an issue. Different areas can suffer from a larger population of certain types of pests and you want to make sure your home is protected from the start. While the company can treat your home with your belongings in it, you may want to have them come out for the first time before you move your belongings in. This way, they can treat every nook and cranny to make sure nothing is overlooked.

Have your central HVAC system serviced

Since you can't be sure exactly how well the previous owners took care of the HVAC system with regards to having it serviced annually (unless they produce paperwork for you) and you don't know how diligent they were when it came to keeping the air filter properly cleaned, it is especially important for you to have a tech come out and service the system for you before you start using it. Also, don't forget how important it is to stay on top of the air filter cleaning.

Change the outside locks

Just to be on the safe side, have a locksmith come out and replace all your outside locks. This way, you can rest assured that there isn't anyone out there running around with copies to your house that can allow them to simply walk in your home at any time which puts your entire household at a great risk.

Repair any small problems

It's best if you repair any small problems you spot while you are moving in right away. This way, once you are settled you can truly begin enjoying your new place without having those issues weighing on your mind. Also, a lot of problems will only get worse and worse when they are ignored for a while, so it can even save you from future troubles that may take more to fix.
